2D View Tab

Many ways to view your design

At the top of the design window, are four tabs, with one highlighted to indicate which view you are in. Click on another tab to change your view or click on one of the items in the Design View menu. You can open a second window by holding down the Option key while clicking.

Why would I want more than one design window open?

You may want to look at the 3D view while editing in 2D. You might like to use the Details view to select things in the 2D view and going back and forth between them is easiest with them both open.

Can you briefly introduce me to these views?

The 2D view is where you will do most of your designing. It is the blueprint view that you will use when you're done designing and want to go out to the shop and create what you've designed.

The 3D view gives you a quick-and-dirty idea of how various parts of your design actually relate to each other.

The Materials List view comes in very handy when you're shopping at the lumber store.

The Details view presents a table of every object, dimension, and attribute in your design.

All of these views have a Cutting Diagram variant (except the 3D view), which can help you plan how you use stock material.

All of these views can be printed.
