Object Layout Inspector
Group, Arrange and Distribute your Objects
You may want to
- group objects together
- ungroup them
- align some cabinets along one wall or make sure your floor-mounted cabinets are actually all on the floor
- resize all your cabinets to the same height and depth
- rotate an object so it faces left instead of front
- evenly distribute a set of stairs or studs in a wall
Grouping and Ungrouping
When you group some objects together, Design Intuition does more than just treat them as a group. When a group is resized, the objects contained in it resize, too. You can alter the way the contained objects resize by adjusting their attributes.
Another thing worth noting: Smart Objects behave very poorly when they are ungrouped. Design Intuition will not allow Smart Objects to be ungrouped. If you want to alter a Smart Object, the best approach is to open it from (double click on it in) the Library inspector, alter it directly, and then save it under a new name.
Align and Resize
Alignment only affects the location of objects in the two dimensions that are currently visible.
Rotate
Rotation spins objects around an axis which is perpendicular to the view, which means that you may have to change the view before you can rotate the object the way you have in mind. For example, suppose your cabinet is facing Front and you want it to face Left. First, switch to the Top view and then rotate the object clockwise.
Distribute
This function distributes your selected objects within the current view. It can do so in two different modes: either by evenly distributing the centers of your selected objects or by evenly distributing the space between them. If all your selected objects are the same size and shape, these modes produce the same result.
But the distribute function seems to be slightly broken...
Sometimes it produces results that may not seem correct. If you've felt this way, or if you're just curious, read on. First, it has to figure out which are the two "guide objects:" the two that stay in place while the others line up between them. The guide objects are the two that are furthest apart. Sometimes you might not choose the same two objects, but Design Intuition is quite careful about choosing them. If Design Intuition chooses the wrong objects, Undo the distribution and move the object you didn't want chosen closer to the middle of the set of objects and try it again.
